Peacemaker of the Year
Award |
Dear Supporters of Mediation and Conflict Resolution,
On October 15, the Mediation Center of San Joaquin will commemorate International Conflict Resolution Day and acknowledge prominent individuals in the community for our 14th annual Peacemaker of the Year Award. Our Peacemakers have always had diverse and wide-ranging backgrounds but share the common goals of peace, conflict resolution, and making a positive contribution toward building a stronger community.
Joining our list of inspiring and committed individuals, the Mediation Center is pleased to announce this year's Peacemakers:
Kim DeLaCruz, a correctional officer, trainer and public information officer with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department; John Reynolds, Executive Director of the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless and Cub Scout leader; Tino Adame, an advocate for veterans and community organizer; and Margee Ensign, Dean and Professor, School of International Studies, University of the Pacific and formerly a senior consultant with the HIV/AIDS Rwanda Project.
This year’s motivational speaker is Stockton’s mayor, the Esteemed Ann Johnston, who confronts the great challenges of municipal governance and community cohesiveness. Mayor Johnston has a longstanding history of community development and has strived to improve the community and education through charitable works. She has also served as a volunteer with the Peace Corps.
The Peacemaker and International Conflict Resolution Day celebration will again be held at Grace Covell Hall at University of the Pacific at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include a silent auction and dinner. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward a scholarship program in support of the Center’s Adult Stress and Anger Management/Positive Parenting Classes. The contributions received will aid clients in attending this essential program.
We are pleased to announce attendees will also have the opportunity to share the very moving personal story of a graduate of our Adult Stress and Anger Management-Positive Parenting Class and how this service has impacted her life, her future and those around her.
I am personally inviting you to attend this inspiring annual event. Your involvement is needed at a celebration honoring those who have made a great contribution to the needs of our community and worked towards its stability and growth. Seeing all those in attendance, also with a desire to further these goals, will be an occasion of unity and motivation.
Expecting to see you there,
With sincere regards,
Francine Poelstra
Executive Director
